colourQ #143

Happy Tuesday! I'm back with a new colourQ challenge!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I spent some time catching up with a few of my favorite crafting buddies on a quick girls' trip! It's always fun to see them, but the time we were together passed by so quickly!

Here's my card for this week:

Supplies: cardstock (Poppy Parade, So Saffron, Island Indigo, Basic Gray -  Stampin' UP!), Spellbinders circle dies, Cuttlebug embossing folder, typed sentiment.
The card came together rather quickly, except for the sentiment. I was stumped! After much web surfing, I found this one! I hand-cut the heart and the pieces for the arrow based on pictures I found online.

and here's our colourQ!

To be considered for this week's colourQueen, make sure to link your creation at the colourQ blog by Sunday, July 1 at noon Central Time! (Don't forget to display the challenge colors and link back to the colourQ blog in your entry post.)

Of course, the rest of the colourQ Royal Court have created some marvelous projects with this week's colors! You can see them on the colourQ blog or by visiting their personal blogs. (The links are to the right next to the thumbnail of this week's challenge colors.)

Thanks so much for stopping by! I can't wait to see what you'll create with this week's colourQ!
P.S. Don't forget, there's still time to play along with the current challenges at Christmas Card Challenges (use rolled flowers), Drunken Stampers (a colour challenge), and Your Next Stamp's Splitcoast challenge (Anything Goes)!

Christmas Card Challenges - Dots & Stripes!

Happy Sunday, and Happy Father's Day! It's time for a new Christmas Card Challenge, and this week, we'd like for you to use dots and stripes on your entry!

Here's my card!

supplies: card base, image stamp (Henry Eating Large Cookie - Whiff of Joy), sentiment stamp (aMuse Studio), polka dot paper (aMuse Studio), plaid paper (Good Cheer - October Afternoon), spellbinders die (Labels 25), clear button, kraft cardstock, twine (Whisker Graphics), foam tape, brads, blue card stock (Stampin' UP!),  white card stock (Papertrey Ink), ink (Brilliance Graphite Black, Stampin' Up Real Red), Copic markers [mouse - E81, E84 (fur), E41 (belly). R01. R02. E93 (ears), RV32 (nose), R14, R24, W2, 0 (hat); cookie - E30, E31, E50, E53; G00, G40 (icing); sprinkles - RV14, G16, Y15, B26, R29, R37; other - W1, W2, 0.

I've been looking forward to using this stamp since I got it after Christmas last year. I colored the image a while back, and couldn't decide what card I'd make with it! When I saw that this week's challenge was dots & stripes, I thought it would be perfect!

You can't really see it in the photo, but I added Glossy Accents to the frosting on the cookie to give it a little shine. I love the little rainbow sprinkles on the cookie! Whenever I make sugar cookies, I always add those sprinkles...I don't know what it is, but somehow the cookies taste better with the sprinkles!

Don't forget to visit the rest of the CCC team to see the fun and fantastic cards they've created this week: AlannaBrigitteCandaceCorinneDeeKatie, MargoMichelePat, and Stephanie!

Drunken Stampers #90

Happy Saturday! It's time for a new challenge at Drunken Stampers! Thanks to everybody who played along with our last challenge! You sure showed us some inspiring ways to create with triangles!
This week, we've got a fun, tasty, summery colour combination for you!

Here's my card:

Supplies: glitter (Martha Stewart Crafts), cardstock (Stampin' UP - red, pink; Papertrey Ink - kraft, white), twine (Trendy Twine), sentiment stamp (Paper Smooches), Ranger Glossy Accents, Cuttlebug embossing folder, vellum, wood button.
I made the star accents by drawing a star on card stock, traced it onto thicker card stock, ran it through my Xyron sticker maker, then added glitter to the sticky side, sealed it with Glossy Accents and let it dry overnight. The green star didn't come out as "limey" as I would have liked it to be in the picture, but it looks closer to that color in person.

I added a square of vellum to the red card stock square to soften it. It was pretty challenging working with all five colors (I'm used to a limit of 4)!

Ready to get crafty? Here's our delicious colour combo:

The party's just getting started! Don't forget to stop by and see what the rest of the team created! If you'd like to visit their personal blogs and leave them some love, here's the list: ChaitaliDonnaElizabethNatSpike, and Steph!

retrosketches #15

For my DeNami Designs "Cards for Guys" post, please click HERE.

Hi, crafty friends! Hope you're having a good Monday!

I shipped a couple of packages to my parents, organized my Spellbinders in a binder (with magnetic vent covers that I bought at Home Depot -- thanks Kristie for the heads-up!), treated myself to a coffee at Starbucks and bought a few things at the grocery store!

I thought I'd pop in and share my card for this week's challenge at retrosketches! One of my longtime friends (we've known each other since we were 3 or 4) just had a baby boy, and I used this week's retrosketch for my card!

Supplies: kraft cardstock (Papertrey Ink), patterned paper (Three Bugs In A Rug - Dawson); onesie stamp (Studio G), mini star stamp (DeNami Designs), sentiment stamp (Paper Smooches), green, navy cardstock (Stampin' UP!), metal die (Spellbinders Labels 8), seam binding ribbon, silver brads, ink (Night of Navy, Bordering Blue, Lucky Limeade - Stampin' UP!), Copic markers.

And here's this week's retrosketch!

If you'd like to play along with this challenge, you can find all of the details on the retrosketches blog!

Don't forget, there's still time to play along with the current challenges at Christmas Card Challenges (use woodgrain), Drunken Stampers (use triangles), and Your Next Stamp's Splitcoast challenge (a color challenge of pink, orange, and green)!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll be back tomorrow morning with a new colourQ challenge!

DeNami Blog Hop: Cards for Guys!

Hi! I hope you're having fun checking out all the super cool cards for the special guys, dudes and dads in your life! You probably arrived here from Lisa Elton's blog, and now you're visiting me (Suzanne Bier)!

Don't forget to leave comments for all the participants as you hop along...two lucky commenters will each win a $20 mini shopping spree on the DeNami Design web site!

I made two cards for the hop! The first is a regular greeting card and the second is a "pull-up" gift card holder!

DeNami supplies: sentiment stamp (Happy Father's Day cling), image stamps (Mini Heart, Mini Star), watermark ink (VersaMark - available in the DeNami store), opaque white embossing powder. Other supplies: cardstock, embossing folder, brown ink.
I didn't have a tie stamp, so I created a tie-shaped template and traced it onto various scraps of cardstock. I stamped the patterns on each tie with watermark ink, then heat embossed each one.

(I drew the dots on the red tie with a watermark pen because I didn't have the dot stamp, but you could also use DeNami's Teeny Swiss Dot stamp if you want to!)

I adhered each tie onto the embossed cardstock panel, stamped the sentiment, then adhered it on the bottom right.

My second card is a gift card holder, and it's pretty easy to do! (Side note: I used the same star and sentiment stamps that I used on the first card.)

I cut a strip of card stock measuring 4 1/4" wide by 10 3/4" long and folded it into thirds. I used a tape runner to seal the bottom and the back. Then I stamped and embossed the stars on the front and back.

I cut a slit through the top (this one measures 1 1/4" by 1/8", but as long as the twill tape or ribbon can pass through easily, it doesn't matter if the measurements are exact.)

I cut a piece of twill tape that measures about 18 inches, folded it in half, and put the gift card in the middle. I threaded one side through each side of the pocket and secured the two sides of the twill together with a staple.

To finish off the design, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of coordinating card stock, then dry embossed the strip, wrapped it around the gift card holder and adhered it.

Now, when your favorite guy pulls down on the twill tape, the card pops out!

Your next stop on the hop is the fabulous Wendy Elliot! I'm sure she's created something totally awesome for the hop! In case you want to start at the beginning, the full list of participants is on the DeNami Designs blog!

Don't forget...you have until Monday, June 11, 2012, 11:59 pm PST, to leave comments on all the blogs (to be eligible for one of the two $20 DeNami mini shopping sprees).

Thanks so much for stopping by!

retrosketches #14

Hi! Just a quick post to share my card for this week's retrosketches challenge!

I wanted to use some rub-ons from my stash for the stars, but they were red and didn't quite match the softer colors of the paper.

I found they looked better if I applied them and flipped the jar image over afterwards...that way they had a white center, and the red was only on the outline! I added Stickles on top of the acetate to give them some sparkle!

Supplies: image stamp (American Crafts - Dear Lizzy), alphabet stamps (Paper Smooches), patterned paper (American Crafts - Dear Lizzy), rub-on stars (Basic Grey), acetate, twine (Whisker Graphics), adhesive rhinestones, Copic marker (YG68), ink (StazOn, Brilliance Graphite Black), Stickles, kraft cardstock.
and here's the retrosketch:

Check out all the details on this challenge, the other entries and the DT creations at the retrosketches blog

I'll be back in a few hours with a card for our first Splitcoast challenge for Your Next Stamp!

colourQ #140

Happy Tuesday! It's time for a new colourQ challenge! I tried a new technique that I've been reading about on different blogs, which is faux letterpress. I went through a few tries before I got it right...here's my card:

Supplies: cardstock (Real Red, Tempting Turqoise,  Lucky Limeade - Stampin' UP!), ink (Real Red, Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade - Stampin' UP!), embossing folders (houndstooth - Lifestyle Crafts; dots - Cuttlebug), image stamps and die (Papertrey ink), sentiment stamp (Paper Smooches), baker's twine.

It's not that hard to do...basically you will be inking the inside of one of your embossing folders and placing the pre-cut card stock inside. Then, when you run it through your die-cut machine, you get part of the image inked and you'll have custom-embossed patterned paper.

I discovered a few things: it's easier to cut the card stock before you emboss it. It may take a few tries as you figure out which side you prefer to have inked vs. embossed.

I used Stampin' Up Classic ink, and it cleans up easily from the inside of your folder with a wet wipe. Depending on the card stock you use (I used SU card stock as well), you might get more of a distressed look as the ink will not soak in some spots and will be darker in other places. For this card, it's probably more noticeable because I used the Island Indigo ink on the turquoise card stock.

Here's our colourQ for this week:

Thanks to everyone who joined us for last week's challenge! I noticed that a few people were inspired by my dress form stamp/die set from last week's card...it's very flattering to know that my creations inspired you in some way!

To be considered for this week's colourQueen, make sure to link your creation at the colourQ blog by Sunday, June 10 at noon Central Time! (Don't forget to display the challenge colors and link back to the colourQ blog in your entry post.)

Of course, the rest of the colourQ Royal Court have created some gorgeous projects with this week's colors! You can see them on the colourQ blog or by visiting their personal blogs. (The links are to the right next to the thumbnail of this week's challenge colors.)

I'm in the process of opening my online card store. I hope to get the kinks worked out so that I can open the shop this weekend! I'll be sure to post the info here when it goes live!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I can't wait to see what you'll create with this week's colourQ!

Drunken Stampers: What's Your Angle?

Happy Saturday! It's time for a new challenge at Drunken Stampers! Thanks to everyone who joined us last time! We always love checking out your creations! This time, we'd like for you to use triangles in your entry!

Here's my card:

Supplies: patterned paper (Kioshi & Konnichiwa - Basic Grey), cardstock (Stampin' UP!), image stamp (Kiyomi  - Sister Stamps), sentiment stamp (Amy R Stamps - Magical Wishes Sentiments), grass punch (Fiskars), acetate, foam squares, Copic markers (skin - E00, E01, E53, R02; hair - 110, C4; clothes - BV00, BV02, RV63, RV66; butterfly - YR02, YR15, Y15, Y00, YR00; other - C0, C1).
My triangles are a little more subtle (like in the patterned paper), but as long as there are triangles of some type in your entry, you're good to go!
