Unscripted Sketches #91

Happy Saturday and welcome back for another Unscripted Sketch!

I'm a little bummed because one of my favorite TV shows, Supernatural, was pre-empted last night by the network for the Chicago mayoral debate (and I live in WA state). We've been waiting for over a month for a new episode, and now, we have to wait another week! Oh well, I guess that leaves me more time to craft and make cards!

And now, I present to you...this week's sketch!

For my card, I paired this adorable digi stamp from Some Odd Girl Digital Stamps with paper from Basic Grey's Olivia collection. When I saw this stamp, I couldn't resist it!

I colored the frogs with Copic markers and used a gold gel pen to color Prince Froggy's crown. The sentiment is from SRM Stickers; I cut it apart and re-mounted it on matching cardstock to work with my card's layout.

colourQ #69

Welcome back for another colourQ challenge! This week's colors are beautiful, and they were definitely a challenge for me!

This is actually the second card I made for the challenge. There are several strong colors in the combo for this week, so I decided to keep my layout and card simple.

Color Throwdown #126

It's been a while since I've played along with The Color Throwdown. I think the last time I played was before the holidays...eek! But, this week's color combination, which is based on Basic Grey's Marjolaine collection, was hard to resist...so I just HAD to play along!

Because the challenge was based on the Marjolaine collection, I used papers from the mini pad for my card, which also features Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps' "Birthday Josh":

I also used a sentiment from SRM stickers. I can't believe I had the patience to cut Josh out in detail! I was so scared I'd tear something, but everything stayed together! Whew!

I make so many girl-themed cards that it's nice to break out of that habit every once in a while and do something more boyish!

Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps Challenge #27

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog to check out my entry for this week's Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps Challenge! Can you feel it? Love IS in the air, and it's the theme for this week's SCRS challenge (#27)!

Here's my card, using the adorable Cupid Emily!

I wanted to go for a softer approach, and to try something different with my coloring, so I stamped Emily on kraft cardstock. Not only does it give a softer look to the image, but it also makes the white gel pen pop when I colored in her wings! (I used a gold gel pen for the bow & arrow.)

To complete the card, I added some lace, adhesive pearls and a rub-on sentiment.

I thought the digi was too cute not to reuse it for another holiday! The papers I used are from Bo Bunny's Crazy Love and Crush collections (there's also a scrap from Basic Grey's Green at Heart behind the mummy digi)...on a side note, I'm so glad Bo Bunny is starting to make 6x6 paper pads for their collections, since I make so many more cards than I do layouts these days!

Tonight, I'm meeting up with some of the ladies from my monthly stamping group for an evening of inky fun at a local stamping store! It should be a blast!

Sparkle Creations Challenge #26

I love the inspiration photo for this week's Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge and I thought Valentine Oliver would be great to use on my card! The prize for one lucky random winner will be the sweet Suitcase Ruby stamp!

I colored Oliver in similar shades to some Basic Grey Bittersweet paper that I had in my stash:

Other supplies: sentiment stamp (Stampin' Up!), acrylic buttons, Copics, ink (aMuse and Memento), copper acrylic paint, corner rounder, cardstock.

The three little heart accents are mini clear buttons that I colored with a permanent marker. I love being able to alter supplies that I have to coordinate with my cards!

colourQ #68 - Going Bananas!

Welcome back for another colourQ challenge! This week's colors are inspired by a set of decorative plates:

It took me a while to figure out the design of my card...it was driving me bananas...and that became the inspiration for my card! I'm using stamps from Lawn Fawn's "My Silly Valentine" set.

I stamped the bananas in a lighter color for the background, then colored them in. I saved one banana to be the focus of the card, and stamped it in a darker ink to match the sentiment and the hearts.

Overall, a fairly easy card to make after I figured it out...

Unscripted Sketches 89

Happy Saturday and welcome back for another Unscripted Sketch!

Today I meet up with my stamping group, the Stamping Together Divas, for a day of inky, creative fun! It's one of the highlights of my month! Most of the time, I craft by myself in our computer room, so it's good to for me to get out of the house and have fun from time to time!

This week's Unscripted Sketch also features an optional piggyback challenge, which is to make a masculine card. Here's the sketch:

For my card, I rotated the sketch 90 degrees, and used one single acrylic accent in place of the rectangle and circle. I also used a fabric/cardstock accent where the "TITLE" space is, and altered it with some letter stickers. Here's what I came up with:

Supplies: cardstock (Core'dinations, Stampin' Up!), accents (Little Yellow Bicycle), embossing folder (Sizzix), alpha stickers (Making Memories), brads, twine, staples.

Yep, it's masculine! I wasn't sure if I should add another accent or two, but I decided against it to keep the design closer to the original sketch.

Some Odd Girl Digi Stamps - "Let's Get Embossed"

I recently discovered Some Odd Girl Digital Stamps while looking through groups on Paper Craft Planet. I've always been more of a "fun and cute" papercrafter, and these digis seem to fit my style!

I couldn't resist playing along with the latest challenge on the Some Odd Girl blog, which is to incorporate embossing (either dry or heat) in your entry! I've been in a retro mood lately, and was most inspired by 80's Kaylee  and one of the design examples for her image to make this card:

Other supplies: cardstock (Bazzill, Stampin' Up!), markers (Copic), letter stamps (Lawn Fawn), glitter gel pen (Sakura).

Although I can't say I ever wore leg warmers in the 80's, I loved the bright colors! I liked the squares of different colored paper on the example, so I took that a step further to make it the card background. 

I cut squares of different shades of cardstock and ran them through the Big Shot, then mounted them on black cardstock. I also like the Rubik's Cube effect that it makes! I added some punched stars that I colored with a glitter gel pen as accents to finish the card, which is the same pen that I used to color the star earrings.

The sentiment was assembled with a set of letter stamps, and I consulted my California-born husband to make sure I got the "Valley-Girl" wording right!

colourQ #67

Welcome back for another colourQ challenge! We've got another fun, bright set of colors for you to play with this week, perfect for chasing away any winter blues:

This week's colors not only remind me of summer, but also the fluorescent colors so popular when I was growing up in the 1980's! I thought they'd work great with one of my favorite Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps (Cafe Lucy):

Other supplies: cardstock (Stampin' Up, Bazzill), ink (aMuse), flower (Prima), embossing folders (Sizzix), markers (Copic), sentiment stamp (Elzybells), jeweled brad, adhesive rhinestones.

Since Kiwi Kiss is a retired Stampin' Up! color, I tried my best to match it with some Cosmo Cricket paper. Taken With Teal is also retired, so I used some Turquoise Bo Bunny Double Dot.

Sorry I'm a little late with posting this week, but I had outpatient surgery on Thursday and am in recovery mode! Everything went well; I'm just moving a little slower than normal!

and here's my card! I flipped the sketch and moved the sentiment to the larger part instead of putting it on the side. I've gotten into love/Valentine cards since the Christmas holidays are over!

colourQ #66

Welcome back for another colourQ challenge! I hope you all had a fantastic New Year's holiday! Last year went by so fast...and I'm definitely looking forward to what changes 2011 will bring!

We had an AWESOME turnout for last week's challenge...I love that! It was definitely a challenge for me to decide who my top picks were for the week...there were so many fantastic entries to choose from!

On another note, I'm happy that we've had some sunny (and cold) weather lately, and this week's colourQ challenge is perfect to express it!

Here's my card!

 

Supplies: digital stamp (The Greeting Farm), paper (Cosmo Cricket, Crate Paper), embossing folder (Sizzix), cardstock (Stampin' Up!), markers (Copic), punches (Fiskars, Imaginisce), sentiment sticker.

For the background, I created a pinwheel pattern out of two different scraps of patterned paper.

You might have seen this before, but in case you haven't, here's a quick tutorial on how I put it together.

I used a scrap of cardstock the same size as the card front (4.25" x 5.5") and first divided it into fourths, then drew two diagonal lines from corner to corner, which would look like this:

So basically, you'll cut two squares of paper #1 and two squares of paper #2. Each square will measure 2.125" x 2.75". Or, to make things easy, cut a strip measuring 4.25" x 2.75" from the two types of paper, then cut them in half down the middle.

Then assemble the triangles from each square like this:

I threw this tutorial together last night, and drew the pictures in Paint, so if there's something that doesn't make sense, please ask me! I'll refine the pictures and make the directions clearer if I need to!

Unscripted Sketches: Should Old Sketches Be Forgot...

3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hope you all have a fantastic 2011! And since New Year's Day falls on a Saturday this year, I've got an Unscripted Sketch for you!

For this week's challenge, pick any of the previous sketches from 1-87 and do a new project using that sketch! Please note which sketch you used in your entry post.

I used Unscripted Sketch #20 for my card, which was (hastily) completed last night when we got home from our holiday road trip to California to visit Scott's family and some of our friends. It's fun to travel, but it's true...there's no place like home!

I'm very happy with how my Copic coloring skills are coming along! I haven't taken any classes yet, but I hope to this year and I'd also love to be certified! I love how the hair came out on this one!
